Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I pay for a consultation when I can get one for free from a tree or lawn service?

When you call a tree or lawn service for a free consultation, what you are really getting isn’t a consultation, but a free estimate for services they want to sell you. The consultant may or may not be a tree or lawn expert but will most definitely be a commissioned salesperson incentivized to sell you as many services as possible, even services you don’t need. There is no conflict of interest when you get an independent consultation from me, because I’m not here to sell you services. I’m here to provide you cost effective solutions that you can do yourself, or I can offer you a referral for a local reputable vendor that can do the service for you.

How much is the consultation, what are the payment options, and how long does the consultation take?

The standard consultation fee is $200 and there is currently a $30 discount being offered to reduce the price down to $170. A consultation is scheduled for 2 hours but typically shouldn’t take longer than 1 hour and 30 minutes. Payment is due at the end of the consultation visit. Payment options include cash, check, credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, & Venmo. Payment is due at the end of the consultation visit.

I’m interested in doing my own lawn care. How can you help?

I can provide you with an all-inclusive annual care plan for your soil, turf, trees, and shrubs. The soil care plan is the most important because it has a direct impact for the health of your turf, trees, and shrubs. It will focus on improving soil structure and enhancing soil health. The turf plan will primarily focus on fertilization and weed control but will also take into account insect and disease problems that may need to be addressed. I will measure the square footage of your lawn which will help you determine the amount of product to use for an application. The tree and shrub care plans focus primarily on fertilizers that promote root growth and drought tolerance, along with insect and disease control where needed. I will measure the square footage of your turf and provide you a list of recommended products to carry out your care plans. I will use a soil probe to remove plugs from your lawn and flower beds. I’ll put them in sample bag with instruction on where you can send them to get a soil analysis, which will typically run you about $30.

What are some additional benefits provided by your consultation other than a do it yourself care plan?

As a certified arborist, I can offer pruning advice for your trees. If you have newly planted trees, I can provide you guidance on how to properly prune them to improve structure. If you have mature trees, I can assess them for health or hazard concerns and also provide advice on what needs to be trimmed and what shouldn’t be trimmed. This can give you better insight and perspective on the scope of your trimming needs when it’s time to get estimates, which can vary greatly in scope and price from one company to the next. I can also provide you a referral to an excellent tree trimming service. If you are looking to plant more trees on your property, I can provide you a list of recommended species and refer you to a local tree nursery with an excellent selection of native trees and offers planting services. I can even offer you suggestions for your landscape, such as adding color to your flower beds or what to plant to create an effective privacy screen for your backyard.
